According to an article published today by Boy Genius Report, a source at Apple has pointed out several lines of code buried within the new iOS 4 software that hints at the possibility of both a CDMA iPhone and a next-gen iPad. The article continues to explain that this code will check to see if it is installed on one of these two devices and then allow the device to be activated, thus bypassing the iTunes activation process. Apple is known for putting lines of code like this into the software right before a product launch to help them evaluate the devices in the field, and then removing it before launch.

The rumors of a CDMA iPhone have been drawing closer to reality in the past few weeks, with more and more evidence being revealed in Apple’s code, and with various sources coming forward with new information. Many industry experts are expecting that this could be the time where Apple finally brings the iPhone to Verizon. They also say that the announcement for a new CDMA iPhone on the Verizon network could possibly happen at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) this January.
