The Google Mobile App [iTunes] until today has been noting more than a search app and a bookmark for other Google services. Today the app received an incredibly valuable update for anyone that uses Gmail, Google Calendar or the Google Apps version of those utilities.
With the newest version of the app, users can now receive push notifications for new messages in Gmail as well as calendar events. As a bonus it supports multiple accounts. For anyone that uses Gmail exclusively, this app in conjunction with the Gmail web interface may eliminate the need entirely for Apple’s built in mail.app on the iPhone and iPad.
Another nice addition to the app is a “notification time” setting for alerts. I hope other developers are paying attention. Noting annoys me more than having a push notification delivered along with sounds at 2 am in the morning.
Simply download the latest version of the app and it will inform you of the new feature. Mosey on over to the settings tab and look for the Google Account option. From here you can add as many Google accounts as you like.
