Monday morning various reports were sprouting across Twitter, Facebook and numerous other sites about a possible security breach related to iTunes with linked PayPal accounts. According to reports users received fraudulent charges ranging from a few hundred dollars to several thousand.
Many users have contacted PayPal’s customer service with PayPal informing users that they are aware of the issue and that they are taking steps to help customers by revoking the charges. However, it appears that it is an iTunes specific issue.
According to MercuryNews, Apple spokesman Jason Roth said that they are aware of the problem and are working on it.
“Among other new security measures iTunes now requires more frequent re-entry of a customer’s credit card security code. But if your credit card or iTunes password is stolen and used on iTunes, we recommend that you contact your financial institution and inquire about canceling the card and issuing a charge-back for any unauthorized transactions. We also recommend that you change your iTunes account password immediately.”
This isn’t the first time that the iTunes store has been hit with attacks such as this. In July the iTunes store was hit with an attack that captured a small amount of customer information.
