AMD / ATI Logos

ATI has been a long known graphics card brand to many PC and gaming enthusiast over the years. In 2006 microprocessor giant AMD (Advanced Micro Devices) bought out the struggling graphic card manufacture. Since then they have retained the name with the line of graphics cards such as the Radeon being produced by the company.

The Register is reporting that AMD has finally decided to cut the ATI name out of the brand all together instead re-branding them as “AMD Radeon” and so fourth.

Apple has had a long relationship with ATI in the past, often offering the video card option on many of the products Apple has produced over the years. The new Mac Pro, Apple’s high end system designed for media professionals, was recently updated to include the Radeon HD 5870.

While this is currently speculation, could Apple be possibly be getting ready to offer a Mac computer with an AMD CPU? While Apple has been in recent years sided with Intel, the ability for Intel to keep up with the demand has been a problem for Apple. Many industry experts have expected Apple to look at other possible CPU manufactures for a solution. Apple has recently launched the i7 Intel CPU inside their Mac products.
