Earlier today Apple held a media event that focused on the music and entertainment side of the company. As expected they introduced a new iPod Touch, iPod Shuffle, and a new iPod Nano. Steve Jobs also took the time to announce a new smaller version of Apple’s “hobby” product, the Apple TV.

iPod Touch

The new iPod Touch features many of the same features as the recently released iPhone 4. Included with the touch are features such as the Retina Display, Dual Cameras, FaceTime, HD video recording, and a Gyroscope. Sizes include 8, 32, and 64 GB with a price of $229, $299, and $399.

iPod Nano

In addition to releasing a new iPod Touch, Apple has also decided to bring the touch screen to the Nano. The device comes in several different colors and features some features of the iPod touch such as an accelerometer. The device is also Apple’s only iPod to feature a FM radio. Available in 8 and 16 GB with a price of $149 and $179.

iPod Shuffle

Along with the two touch screen devices Apple also announced a new iPod Shuffle. The iPod Shuffle has always been one of Apple’s more affordable iPods. Along with the new device, they also announced a new price point of only $49. The major new design of the Shuffle is the reintroduction to buttons on the device, last years model decided to do away with the buttons. It seems Apple has decided to bring them back for features such as VoiceOver which lets you dictate to your Shuffle, as well as a three way toggle switch for shuffle, playing in order, and to turn the device on and on. The iPod Shuffle is available for $49, comes in five metallic aluminum colors and has a capacity of 2GB.

Apple announced a new Apple TV, which is about one fourth the size of the previous version. As expected, the Apple TV will include Netflix streaming along with content from YouTube, Flickr, and MobileMe. The device retails at only $99 which is a huge price decrease and many experts believe that it will help drive the device more mainstream. Along with the device Apple is also releasing a remote app that will allow you to control your Apple TV from any iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch.

Additionally, Apple is rebranding the AirTunes feature to AirPlay, which will allow you to stream content from your mobile device or computer directly to the Apple TV.

The Apple TV is available for pre order and should be shipping in a few weeks.

iTunes 10

The major announcement about iTunes 10 is the new social networking service for music called Ping. It allows artists to communicate with their fans and also allows for people to find music their friends are listening to. Additionally, iTunes 10 brings the new .99 cent high definition television show rentals, AirPlay, improved Apple TV support, and improved Syncing. iTunes 10 will be available for download from Apple soon.
