Switching to OS X, or any new OS really, can be a pain. For the most part, everything you knew is gone and you are left trying to figure out new software and what you can use to replace the software you left behind. Lifehacker, a sister site to Gizmodo, has put together a list of their “Best Free Mac Downloads“. Out of the 20 apps they list, three apps are actually built right into OS X and don’t require a download.

I’d also have to argue that Safari, especially with the release of Safari 5 which includes extensions and “reader”, is now a better web browser than Chrome / Firefox. But hey, everyone still loves to have options, right?

What do you think of Lifehacker’s list? Did they nail your list of top downloads? Did they miss something you feel should be on the list? Let us know in the comments.
