Shares of TiVo stock jumped 6.5 percent today as rumors that the companies technology could make it onto the next version of the Apple TV. Although any specifics of how TiVo’s technology would be used on the Apple TV are scarce.

Could the Apple TV become a DVR? It is possible. Recent rumors have suggested that Apple is currently working on a new version of the Apple TV or even a completely different product aimed for the living room. Could we soon see the Apple TV replaced with an Apple DVR-type device? It is possible.

Perhaps we have two different rumors that have somehow come to be intertwined. We could see Apple try two devices. First, a redesigned Apple TV running iOS and streaming content from a cloud based iTunes, Hulu, YouTube and Netflix. For a price of $99 I would bet that the device would sell incredibly well. If Apple used the current App Store model for in app purchases through Netflix, Hulu and any other service, then Apple would continue to make money as people “rented” movies.

However, there is still content not available through iTunes or other digital content providers, not to mention many people still do not have access to reliable high speed Internet. For those people, a DVR-like device would make since. This could very well be that new device that is being worked on at Apple’s headquarters by a team outside of the normal Apple TV team. [Barons]
